Drug seizures: Mizoram Police enters World Book of Records

Aizawl: Mizoram Police entered the two prestigious Gold Editions of 'World Book of Records' after it had disposed of record quantities of drugs and seized massive consignments of smuggled exotic animals, IANS.

According to Mizoram Police, World Book of Records President and CEO Santosh Shukla wrote them to Director General of Mizoram Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava, informing the state police's feat. World Book of Records is based in London.

The state police had carried out mega disposal (through burning and bulldozing) of smuggled drugs weighing 930.229 kg valued at over Rs 2,362 crore on June 24 and caught consignments of 468 smuggled exotic animals.

"We are extremely grateful to the team of the 'World Book of Records' recognising the dedication, sincerity and tireless efforts of Mizoram Police in curbing the menace of illegal drugs and checking the smuggling activities," Mizoram police stated.

An official from the state police said that people were always supportive of police efforts to prevent or detect crimes, including the menace of illegal drugs and smuggling.

State and central security officials state that drugs were smuggled from Myanmar into the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.

The illicit items police seized include illegal drugs, especially heroin, methamphetamine tablets or 'Yaba', poppy seeds, opium, ganja, morphine, bottles of cough syrup, and other contraband like gold, as well as arms and ammunition from neighbouring Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan etc.
