NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Wednesday declared that the election for the Vice President's post has been scheduled for August 6.

The notification for the election to decide the successor of M Venkaiah Naidu will be issued on July 5 and the last date for filing of nomination papers will be July 19.

The scrutiny of nomination papers is on July 20 and the last date to withdraw the nominations is July 22.

Elections will be held on August 6 and the votes will be counted on the same day.

The Electoral College for the election of Vice-President include members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with the nominated members.

Naidu's term as vice president ends on August 10.

It was during a meeting between Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey that the schedule for the Vice Presidential elections was finalized.
