Enraged Lucknow mayor calls bulldozer after being asked to remove shoes upon entering ICU
text_fieldsLucknow: A routine visit by Lucknow's city mayor, Sushma Kharakwal, to a local hospital, took an unexpected turn when doctors requested her to remove her shoes before entering the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). What began as a simple request escalated into a heated altercation between the mayor and the hospital administration.
The incident occurred at Vinayak Medicare, a private hospital located in Thana Bijnaur, where Suren Kumar, a retired soldier from the Army brigade of the municipal corporation, was undergoing treatment in the ICU.
According to hospital officials, the mayor arrived at the ICU accompanied by her colleagues, all of whom were wearing shoes. Doctors and staff members requested them to remove their shoes, citing hygiene reasons. However, the request seemed to spark tension, leading to a verbal confrontation between the mayor and the hospital administration.
Posters protesting the mayor's behaviour soon appeared outside the hospital premises, and at one point, a bulldozer was even brought in, heightening the atmosphere of the standoff. The situation finally began to ease after local police officers arrived at the scene to mediate.
