Mangalore: Five Bajrang Dal activists were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly moral policing and harassing a group of students at Surathkal in Karnataka. In a viral video, the pro-Hindu right-wing activists were seen heckling and harassing a group of MBBS students of KS Hegde Medical College.

As per reports, they questioned the women in the group "for being in the company of Muslim youngsters", the police said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when the six students were driving back from a trip to Malpe Beach in the Udupi district. The group of Bajrang Dal members intercepted the car near a toll plaza in the Surathkal area of Mangaluru and heckled the students.

A complaint has been registered in the local police station. The police have also booked the accused under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"Preetham Shetty, Bajrang Dal district Pramukh, Arshith, Bajrang Dal Prakhand Pramukh Surathkal, Srinivas, Rakesh, and Abhishek were arrested and booked under sections 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint), 323, 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," N Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru City Police commissioner was quoted by The New Indian Express as saying.

"There were two Christian boys, one Muslim boy, and three Muslim girls in the car," Kumar said.
