Gujarat exit polls: BJP to have a landslide victory

Ahmedabad: The exit polls in Gujarat indicate that the BJP is likely to get a landslide win. Congress will finish second and AAP will end up third despite a high-pitch campaign.

The total of three exit polls suggests that BJP may win 131 seats. Chief strategist Amit Shah had set a target of 140 in the state. In 2018, BJP won 99 seats which were the lowest in 30 years. Congress and NCP together are likely to win 41 seats and AAP could win seven seats, reported NDTV.

Gujarat has 182 seats and the majority mark is 92.

News X- Jan Ki Baat shows 117-140 seats for the BJP, 34-51 for the Congress, and 6-13 seats for AAP. TV9 Gujarati has predicted 125-130 seats for the BJP, 40-50 for the Congress, and 3-5 seats for AAP. India Today-Axis My India expects BJP to get 129-151 seats and Congress to get 16-30 seats. This survey has given AAP some hope with the likelihood of winning 9-21 seats.

While exit polls can be wrong, if the current predictions come true, it will be BJP's best win in Gujarat. This can even surpass the post-Godhra riot election held in 2002 when the party won 127 seats.

Congress is likely to lose the momentum it had in 2018 when it managed to confine the BJP to less than 100 seats. This time, Rahul Gandhi held two rallies in the state. The party also lost Ahmed Patel to Covid-19.

BJP is also likely to get a second term in Himachal Pradesh. The state has 68 seats and the majority mark is 35.
