New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare, who led the anti-corruption movement in 2011, said on Friday that the Aam Aadmi Party should not have made the liquor policy, NDTV reported.

Hazare, responding to the arrest of his former associate, said that ‘whatever happens now should happen according to the law.’

‘I am very saddened, that a man like Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me and had raised his voice against liquor, today he is preparing liquor policy,’ he was quoted as saying.

Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement gave the AAP a launching pad , enabling the fledgling rag-tag party to grow stunningly outshining most of the traditional parties.

Hazare, who had previously written to Kejriwal in 2022, expressing his "pain" over Delhi’s liquor policy, said ‘I told him many times to avoid liquor, but he made the policy for more money.’

Anna Hazare, nevertheless having been an impetus to form the party, chose to stay away from politics and instead gave his ‘blessings’ to the party leadership.

Kejriwal and AAP leadership chose to avoid direction confrontation with Hazare following his criticism.

In his letter to Kejriwal, Hazare reportedly said ‘This is the first time I am writing to you since you became chief minister, because I am pained at recent news reports about your government's liquor policy. Like liquor, power too intoxicates. You are intoxicated by power, it seems.’
