Bidar/ Karnataka: In the case of a mob of Hindu activists forcing and entering a madrasa in Karnataka's Bidar, the state police arrested four people on Friday. Muslim organisations had called for a protest after Friday prayers on the police's inaction on the incident but called off after the arrests were registered, IANS reported.

Police have named nine people in an FIR filed regarding the incident, and four of them, identified as Munna, Naresh, Yallalinga and Prakash, were arrested. Though the protest call was rolled back, police are keeping high alert in the district where the historical Mahmud Gawan madrasa is located, where the barge-in incident happened.

There were photos and videos that appeared on social media, which went viral.

Police said that it was a group of Hindu activists who forced entered the madrasa while they were participating in a Dussehra procession in Bidar on Wednesday night.

The Mahmud Gawan madrasa is a heritage building and is being maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. The building was built in 1460 AD and is one of the important monuments in India.

Police further said that the activists broke into the premises, breaking the locks and screaming the slogans of "Jai Sri Ram" and "Jai Hindu Rashtra. They conducted Hindu worship in the corner of the building too.

Police had lodged nine cases regarding the incident.

Condemning the incident, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said that extremists broke the gate lock and attempted to desecrate the historic Mahmud Gawan masjid and mosque. Addressing Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Bidar police, he asked, "How can you allow this to happen? BJP is promoting such activity only to demean Muslims," he alleged.

Police are searching for the remaining accused.
