Kanpur: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded action in response to an incident involving the conversion of a Hindu youth to Islam and his subsequent marriage to a Muslim girl in Kanpur.

The Kanpur police have launched an investigation into a viral video that appears to depict a 'Nikah' ceremony involving a local Hindu youth purportedly converting to Islam to marry a Muslim girl.

The couple hails from the Chaubeypur area of the district and has since relocated to an undisclosed location.

According to Chaubeypur police station in-charge Sanjay Pandey, authorities are working to contact the family of the couple. The video in question, however, captures an event that took place several months ago within an urban setting.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad's district convener, Vipin Shukla, led protests at the Chaubeypur police station, demanding a thorough investigation and stern action against those allegedly involved in the conversion.

"A Hindu youth has been converted and married to a Muslim girl. It should be investigated. There is some conspiracy behind this," Shukla asserted, echoing the concerns of local residents. Reportedly, the incident dates back four months when a local Hindu boy eloped with a minor Muslim girl from the same neighbourhood.

According to community members, the couple initially wedded following Hindu customs. However, subsequently, the Hindu youth converted to Islam and married a Muslim girl. Initially, the girl's parents had accused the youth of abducting their minor daughter and filed a complaint with the police.
