Anantnag: National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday spoke about the removal of chapters related to Mughals from textbooks. He said that history cannot be erased. "History won't change. We won't remain but history will remain."

He asked how they will forget Shah Jahan, Aurangzeb, Akbar, Babar, Humayun, and Jahangir. "They ruled for 800 years. No Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, or Christian felt threatened. When they show the Taj Mahal, what will they say about who built it? What will they say about Fatehpur Sikri where the Mughal crown was before moving to Delhi? How will they hide Humayun's tomb and Red Fort."

Speaking about the BJP, he said that they are "hitting their own feet with an axe".

The Lok Sabha member from Srinagar said that opposition parties will have to unite if they want to win elections against the BJP. "Discussions are going on and "I can see good results coming on the unity front (at the national level). Alliance is the only thing that will unite us. We cannot fight individually. That is why even the opposition parties at the national level are trying to find ways to unite so that we can win the elections."

He was speaking to reporters at Larnoo in the Anantnag district.

When asked about China building villages in Arunachal Pradesh, he said India is not ready to accept Beijing's claims. "This is not something that has happened now. For long, China has claimed that Arunachal Pradesh is its territory. But India is not ready to accept this claim." This is the third time China has unilaterally renamed places in Arunachal Pradesh in the past five years. It has been aiming at the names of villages, mountain peaks, and rivers. Beijing calls Arunachal Pradesh South Tibet.
