New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi told a meeting at Cambridge University on Friday that democracy is under attack in India.

Gandhi, who is a Visiting Fellow of the Cambridge Judge Business School (Cambridge JBS), said the institutional framework required for democracy is getting constrained in India.

Lecturing on the subject of ‘Learning to Listen in the 21st Century’, Rahul added that Indian government used Pegasus to spy on opposition leaders, according to India Today.

"I myself had Pegasus on my phone. A large number of politicians had Pegasus on their phones. I was told to be careful when I speak on the phone," Rahul Gandhi reportedly said.

The Congress leader accused the government of controlling the media and judiciary alongside carrying out surveillance, intimidation, attack on minorities, Dalits and Tribals.

Rahul Gandhi will hold closed-door sessions on Big Data and Democracy and India-China relations at Cambridge University during his week-long visit to UK.

He will address "Indian Diaspora Conference" alongside interacting with representatives of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) over the weekend in London.
