India records highest single-day COVID deaths, over 3.48 lakh fresh cases

New Delhi: India reported 3,48,421 fresh covid infections with 4,205 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the government data released on Wednesday morning. The positivity rate stood at 17.56%.

This is the highest-ever death count that India has ever seen in a single day since the pandemic began in 2020.

Maharashtra topped the list with over 800 deaths. While states such as Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Karnataka have also reported over 200 deaths per day.

While the total tally in covid infections had shown a slight improvement in the last days, the state-wise reports show that the situation is no better.13 states are showing 100,000 active corona cases and over 500 districts are reporting over a 10% positivity rate in the country.

Meanwhile, shocking images of the bodies of Covid-19 Patients being tosses into the River Ganga have emerged from areas near the Uttar-Pradesh-Bihar border areas leading to a blame game.

Nevertheless, this is the second consecutive day to mark new cases drop below the 3.5 lakh mark in India.
