India will achieve 450 GW renewable energy by 2030: Minister

Dubai: Speaking at the Dubai Expo 2020 Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy RK Singh said that India was on target to achieve 40% of its installed energy capacity from renewable sources by 2022 and that by 2030 India would be able to produce at least 450GW of energy from renewable sources.

"India is already ahead of what we pledged in our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Already 39 per cent of our installed capacity is from non-fossil based sources," the minister declared.

Earlier this month, the MNRE in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organised a series of events, from October 6 to 8, 2021 during the Climate and Biodiversity Week at Expo 2020 Dubai. The events covered India's Renewable Energy Achievements and Ambitions, Emerging Areas and Opportunities for Renewable Energy in India, as well as events hosted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) according to a statement from the ministry.

The minister also said that plans were being laid to acquire electrolysers for the purpose of producing hydrogen and that green hydrogen use would be mandated in other sectors like refining. Solar and wind energy were also focused on as the government worked on the Green Corridor Phase 2 project, he said.
