The India Art List 2023 released by The Hurun Research Institute offers a rare glimpse into the material wealth of successful artists.
The list, appeared on August 17, details the country’s top 50 most successful artists today, NDTV reported.
The details relating to the sales of their works are based on public auction in the year ending on July 31, 2023.
Sculptor Anish Kapoor tops the list being the most successful artist in India today.
Putting out a turnover of ₹ 91 crore, the British-Indian has ranked top for the fifth consecutive year, selling his most expensive work at ₹ 9.27 crore.
Garnering a turnover of ₹ 24.71 crore, Arpita Singh follows Anish Kapoor, selling her most expensive art work at ₹ 11.32 crore.
Jogen Chowdhury with a turnover of ₹ 19.76 crores is in the third position with his most expensive work is worth ₹ 4.40 crores.
Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, who occupies the fourth position with ₹ 17.88 crores turnover, is a painter, poet and art critic based in Vadodara.
Sheikh’s art work is the most expensive of those in the top 10 list valuing at ₹ 16.89 crores.
The 98-year-old Krishen Khanna is in the fifth position followed by Sakti Burman in the sixth spot.
The 26-year-old Raghav Babbar is the youngest artist to be on the list at the seventh position with a turnover of ₹ 11.77 crores.
