January to see below normal temperatures, says weather department

New Delhi: Many central parts of India and adjoining areas of the peninsular, east, and northeast areas are likely to see below-normal temperatures in January. According to the India Meteorological Department, minimum and maximum temperatures are going to be below normal.

Above-normal to normal minimum temperatures are most likely over southern parts of India. Many parts of northeast India and some parts of northwest India are also likely to see similar temperatures, reported ANI.

Northwest India consisting of seven meteorological subdivisions (East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh) is likely to see below-normal monthly rainfall. "The rainfall over Northwest India consists of seven meteorological subdivisions (East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh) is most likely to be below normal (<86% of Long Period Average (LPA)," said IMD.

Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole during January is likely to be below normal, <82% of Long Period Average. South peninsular India and some pockets of central India are likely to be the exception.

Above normal to normal minimum temperatures are most likely over southern parts of the south Peninsula, many parts of northeast India, and some parts of northwest India. Minimum temperatures are most likely to be below normal over many parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular, east, and northwest India.
