Karnataka child rights commission summons private schools for blocking online classes

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has summoned 14 private school managements for blocking online classes.
Parents of students in these private schools have alleged that the schools blocked classes for not paying the entire school fee for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Parents also alleged incidents of students attending the same classes being charged differently.
The hearing was held over two days.
The commission ordered the schools to unblock classes and the school managements are warned of strict action if not complied with the order.
Block Education Officers (BEOs) will be recommended to cancel the 'No Objection Certificate' of such schools, reported The Indian Express.
KSCPCR chairman Fr Antony Sebastian said that the school management who turned up before the commission agreed to unlock the classes.
He added that most schools named in the complaint are affiliated with central boards.
Several parents have asked school managements to produce a comprehensive fee breakup before parents. Dates by which the fee should be paid are also requested to be specified.
Some parents said that the 'fee breakup' should be posted on a public platform such as the school website as that would make the process transparent and avoid issues regarding accountability.
