Bengaluru: A Karnataka MLA from the Congress party shouted at a police officer in public, telling the officer that his party would punish him when it comes to power, NDTV reported.

In a viral video, the MLA could be seen threatening the officer.

The incident allegedly happened after the officer asked the MLA not to carry out civic work at the planned Maulana Abdul Circle in Karnataka's Belagavi district. The officer said that such an act might invite a law and order problem and which could turn communal.

Hearing this, the MLA became furious and shouted at the sub-inspector, pointing his finger.

MLA Nymagouda said that he knows that the police officer has the support of the ruling BJP.

For another chance at power, the Karnataka BJP sells Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aura and the personal hold of the party's state leaders in their respective constituencies.

Modi has visited the state six times this year already and is expected to land twice more this month. On March 25, he is expected to attend a rally in Devangere that concludes four Vijay Sankalp rallies.

Last, the BJP received a setback after HD Thammaiah, a Lingayat leader and a close confidant of the party's National General Secretary CT Ravi, quit the party and joined the Congress. This suggested that BJP is facing discontent from certain leaders who are waiting for tickets to contest in the upcoming Assembly poll.
