With COVID-19 vaccination emerges as a necessary condition for travelling, Indians who have received Bharat Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin may not qualify for travelling abroad. While Serum Institute of India's Covishield vaccine is accepted in over 130 countries, Covaxin is accepted only in 9.

Though Bharat Biotech submitted its Expression of Interest to be on the World Health Organisation's Emergency Use Listing (EUL), it hasn't been added as "more information is required".

However, peer-reviewed publication Clinical Infectious Diseases has noted that the vaccine protects against new coronavirus variants, including B1617 and B117. Covaxin has also been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in the 2-18 age group.
