New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra vacated her residence on Friday, a few days after the government had served her with an eviction notice.

Moitra expelled from Lok Sabha last month after she was allegedly involved in an ‘unethical conduct’.

The former Bengal MP was accused of sharing her user ID and password of the Parliament website with businessman Darshan Hiranandani alongside accepting gifts from him.

Following her expulsion from the House, the Centre asked Moitra to immediately vacate the residence.

The notice by the Directorate of Estates said Moitra and any other occupant ‘are liable to be evicted from the said premises, if need be, by the use of such force as may be necessary’.

Meanwhile, Moitra's lawyers said that ‘House number 9B Telegraph Lane occupied by Ms. Mahua Moitra was fully vacated by 10 am this morning 19/1/2023 and possession handed over by her lawyers to Directorate of Estates who are inspecting and engaged in due process. Premises were vacated before authorities arrived and no eviction took place at all.’

The government claimed Moitra was given ‘sufficient opportunity’ to prove that she is not an unauthorized occupant.

Moitra vacated the residence after the Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the eviction order.
