Mangaluru: An investigation into the alleged attack on a 13-year-old Muslim boy in Karnataka's Mangaluru has turned out to be a faked one by the desperate boy who wanted attention from his parents, according to police.

The police probed the case after the boy alleged that he was attacked by two masked men when he was on his way back home from Madrassa. His home has been barely 300 meters from the Madrasa.

The boy with his torn clothes was surfaced on social media with the allegation of the attack by two masked men. Following which, the parents had got registered an FIR with the Suratkal Police and launched a probe into it.

The police claimed that in the interrogation, the boy revealed it was his desperate attempt to get attention from his parents that drove him to create an attack story.

Shashi Kumar, Mangaluru police commissioner, said the police had filed an FIR after the complaint from his parents. Now it turned out to be fake one and the FIR would be de-registered, he added.

The commissioner also claimed that the evidence that has with the police about the incident also corroborates the boy's revelation.

The boy is said to have told the police that since he did not have any friends, besides his family being poor, he thought of staging an attack of this kind so that he could grab some attention.

The police are reported to have taken the boy to the Child Welfare Committee and also to the doctor for consultancy and counselling. His parents too have been counselled, as he had developed some suicidal tendencies as well at a tender age.
