Media blackout in Kashmir: Delhi Police says no to public meeting
cancel

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has denied permission to conduct a public meeting on Kashmir's "media blackout", which was scheduled to run at Gandhi Peace Foundation on Wednesday. Police cited the possibility of law and order issues for denying permission, The Indian Express reported.

The event was scheduled at 3 pm on Wednesday where Delhi University professor Nandita Narain, Hussain Masood — retired Jammu and Kashmir High Court judge, CPI (M) leader MY Tarigami, filmmaker Sanjay Kak, Mir Shahid Saleem — United Peace Alliance chairperson and senior journalist Anil Chamadia were to speak.

"Information/local input has been received that some anonymous group is planning/ organising a public meeting on 'Media Blackout in Kashmir' at 3 pm on March 15, 2023, at Gandhi Peace Foundation. Efforts to get the details of members of the anonymous group have been made, but the same could not be verified," an order issued by the IP Estate police station house officer read.

It further said that there was discreet input of disturbance in the law and order situation in view of organising the said meeting and therefore organisers were requested to cancel the booking ".. and intimiation may kindly be sent to the undersigned at the earliest," TIE quoted.
