New Delhi: Over the allegations of sexual harassment against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, also a BJP MP, the Delhi Police have filed two cases, including POCSO. He is also accused of harassing a minor wrestler.

The police moved the action after Supreme Court ordered them to do so after the country’s top wrestlers’ protests at Jantar Mantar. Since the POCSO act is added over his head, he will not have a scope for bail, NDTV reported.

Delhi Police, under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserted that they will actively pursue the case, NDTV learned.

The WFI chief said that the wrestlers must have waited for the report submitted by the committee on the charges against him but claimed that he was welcoming the Supreme Court order, which directed the police to file a case against him on metoo allegations. The police will probe the charges, and he is ready to cooperate with them. The government also said that it has no objection to initiating a case against him, he said adding that no one is above the law.

The oversight committee formed by sports minister Anurag Thakur filed its report on April 5, but the same has not been made public.

Singh claimed that he had not raised any objection in forming the committee, questioned or hampered it but followed the law. He welcomed every decision, including the oversight committees, government and Supreme Courts, since he had not done anything wrong.

Meanwhile, protesting wrestlers said that they are continuing the sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar since they have no faith in Delhi Police. They continue their demand for the immediate arrest of the WFI chief, lodging him in jail and stripping him of his portfolios.
