New Delhi: Mumbai police chased a rat to recover 10 tola gold that the animal was carrying away along a garbage heap on a street here.
The rat jumped into a nearby gutter in Gokuldham Colony where the police cornered it and recovered the gold on Thursday.
Following a gold missing complaint, police studied the CCTV footages for the area and identified the missing gold in the clutches of a rat.
A woman named Sundari was on the way to mortgage her gold ornaments worth five lacks to pay her daughter's wedding loan.
She handed in her bag of jewellery to a child on the street, where wanted to give another bag with a vadapav.
At the bank she was shocked to learn about the mistake and rushed back to the spot.
The child was nowhere to be seen and Sundari alerted the police about the missing gold.
Dindoshi Police led by Chief Suraj Raut swung into action looking for the child.
Police studied the CCTV footage for the area spotting the child and its mother.
When the police quizzed the woman, she said they had thrown away the packet in the garbage heap after finding the vadapao dry.
CCTV footage showed police found the bag of gold in the possession of a rat.
The police gave a chase to the rat along the garbage heap, before the rat jumped into the gutter—where the cops caught hold of it.
