Muslim Personal Law Board urges K'taka Govt not to prohibit any group from wearing the dress of its choice

New Delhi: In the context of the ongoing hijab row in Karnataka, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board(AIMPLB) on Monday urged the Karnataka government "not to order wearing of any particular dress in government schools and not to prohibit any group from wearing the dress of its choice."
Condemning the prohibition of Muslim girls from wearing hijab in some schools and areas of Karnataka in a press statement, AIMPLB, the group of all Muslim organisation in the country said that preventing Muslim students from wearing the hijab is tantamount to interfering with personal freedom.
Hazrat Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, General Secretary of the AIMPLB said that these incidents are part of a conspiracy to tear apart national unity.
"Karnataka is an important state in the south, and religious harmony has been its hallmark. But sadly, even here, attempts are being made to tear apart national unity", said Saifullah Rahmani in the press statement.
Dress is a matter of personal choice and this issue falls within the realm of personal freedom. Therefore, it is not appropriate to create discord in society by making it a hot issue, Rahmani said.
He added that every class should have the freedom to choose the dress of their choice.
"Secularism in India does not mean that any individual or group should not reveal their religious identity, It is a matter of secularism that the government should not impose the identity of a particular religion on all citizens without its consent", AIMPLB further said.
