Bollywood actress Neena Gupta has led a controversial life due to her relationship with West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards and her choice to be a single mother in India. Her 2021-autobiography 'Sach Kahun Toh' revealed what a roller coaster ride her life has been. The book may soon get a film adaptation.
The 62-year-old was speaking to The Indian Express when she revealed that she met someone who showed interest in adapting to the screen. The actress took 20 years to write her memoir and admitted to not being sure if people will be interested in her life.
The book recorded her journey from enrolling in the National School of Drama (NSD), moving to Mumbai, and becoming a single mother. Gupta revealed earlier that her choice to be an unmarried mother affected her career. She was written off from the leading lady roles meant for family audiences.
At the time of Such Kahun Toh's launch, Gupta said she wouldn't have written the book if her parents were alive. "My mother suffered her whole life to hide those things." Her book also revealed her relationship with an ex who called off the wedding.
The Badhai Ho-actress relied on candour to sell her autobiography because a lot of her relationships and details about her life are known to the public. Readers were pleasantly surprised to learn about her impulsive first marriage and sad to learn about the abuse faced from a doctor.
In the five-part book, the downslide and resurgence of her career play an important role while the chapter 'How I Met Vivian' is short. It was Gupta's declaration that the affair was an incident in her life but her life is more than that.
