New Delhi: A Nihang Sikh identified as Saravjeet Singh has taken the responsibility for the brutal killing of a man at the Singhu border early on Friday, official sources said.

Soon after surrendering before police, Saravjeet underwent a medical test and has been arrested by the police. He will be presented in court on Saturday.

Saravjeet's father Kashmir Singh has also been been arrested from Sonipat by Haryana Police, as per a news report by News18.

Saravjeet surrendered to the Haryana Police in front of a huge crowd that was raising religious slogans.

Earlier in the day, a man with a hand chopped off was found brutally killed at the Haryana-Delhi Singhu border. The dead body was found at the same place where farmers have been protesting against the three contentious farm laws for the past one year.

According to several videos that have surfaced on social media, it seems that the man was tortured before he was brutally killed.

A Nihang group, Nirvair Khalsa-Udna Dal, had admitted to killing the man on Friday. The group said he was killed for allegedly committing 'sacrilege'.

Speaking to India Today, Balwinder Singh of Nirvair Khalsa-Udna Dal said the man had come to them a few days ago. "He did seva [service] at our camp and won our trust. Before the Prakash Prayer [offered around 3 am], he removed the cloth to cover the holy scripture and insulted the Pothi Sahib [translation book]," Balwinder Singh said

"Whoever indulges in an act of sacrilege, we will treat them in this manner only. We won't approach any police, administration," Balwinder Singh added.
