Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said Lakshadweep could be a substitute for New Zealand or Switzerland as the Union Territory ‘has huge potential from the tourism point of view’, ANI reported.

Reddy’s comments came after slandering of India by Maldives ministers in the aftermath of PM Modi’s visit to the Union Territory where he was photographed enjoying the beauty of the beach.

G Kishan Reddy, batting for Lakshadweep’s tourism possibilities, said the Union Territory would be a tourism destination in the years to come, adding that the government is working on to set up airport there.

‘There is connectivity from Kerala but air connectivity is required. There is no need to go to New Zealand or Switzerland. Everything is in Lakshadweep. People themselves have to become ambassadors,’ ANI quoted the minster as saying.

Following PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep, the Union Territory has emerged as the most searched keyword on Google over the past two days.

Photos from his visit showed PM Modi trying snorkeling and was seen strolling on the beach.

‘For those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them, Lakshadweep has to be on your list,’ caption to his post on X read.

On Friday, more than 50,000 users searched on Google to know more about the Lakshadweep.

More people began to search online after the Prime Minister said the trip to the island was an ‘exhilarating experience’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly added that the government will creature futuristic infrastructure in the area alongside setting up better healthcare and faster internet connections.
