Opposition parties to meet on July 17 to discuss vice president candidates

NEW DELHI: In the upcoming elections for the vice-president, the opposition will jointly field a non-Congress candidate. Sources said that the leaders of several opposition parties are expected to meet on July 17 to discuss the issue.
The Congress party has approached all of the like-minded parties to hold discussions and reach a consensus for a unanimous candidate for the vice-presidential polls scheduled for next month. The opposition's joint candidate for the President post is Yashwant Sinha, who was a TMC activist before resigning from all party posts to contest.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha will host opposition leaders to discuss the floor strategy of the annual session starting on July 18, along with details of the vice-presidential election. Although the opposition did not have the numbers to win, the leaders of these parties termed it an ideological battle against the BJP government.
