Opposition parties try for broader coalition against ruling BJP in Goa

As the state of Goa is gearing up for the upcoming assembly polls, the opposition parties in the state appear to be trying for a broader coalition against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Former Deputy Chief Minister Sudin Dhavalikar's Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party has already announced a pre-poll alliance with the Trinamool Congress. However, Dhavalikar has said that a third party is also likely to join the alliance.

Meanwhile, Vijai Sardesai, sitting MLA and president of the Goa Forward party, has also called for a larger coalition against the saffron brigade in the upcoming polls. Sardesai's Goa Forward Party is allied with the Congress.

"BEAT THEIR GAME PLAN! @BJP4Goa will use #COVIDThirdWave restrictions to manipulate the electoral process to grab power. We must, along with @INCGoa, @AITC4Goa and #MGP must see this danger, rise above our egos, and thwart this plan to divide and rule. This is what #Goa wants," Sardesai tweeted on Friday.

The Election Commission of India is likely to announce the dates of polling in the five states- Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab and Manipur- soon.
