New Delhi: The Congress leadership is open to form more alliances with regional parties in order to take on the BJP, after being buoyed up by the thumping victory in Karnataka.

KC Venugopal, a senior Congress leader on Sunday, said the party is looking forward to create Opposition unity at the national level.

Detailing further about the party’s future plans, Venugopal said Rahul Gandhi will take out another cross-country march replicating the successful Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The leadership is now working on to choose the chief minister of Karnataka and is alongside patching up the difference between Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan .

From what Venugapal said about alliance with regional parties, the Congress appears to be choosy in its decision to keep aloof traditional rivals like CPI-M in Kerala and BRS in Telangana.

‘We can't have an alliance with CPI-M in Kerala or BRS in Telangana, but we can have a post-poll alliance and in some cases pre-poll alliance, he was quoted as saying.

The resounding victory in Karnataka is message for forming opposition unity, he said, adding that ‘We have to work together at the national level’.

As for the probable power tussle between DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah in Karnataka to become chief minister, he said the party will ‘sort it out’ between both leaders.

However, he dismissed the Congress choosing the party chief Mallikarjun Kharge over the two state leaders.

The victory in Karnataka comes as the party is struggling with waning support base and rampant in fight in some states.
