PM Modi announces schemes to support Covid orphans

The Prime Minister on Monday announced plans to care for children who lost their parents to Covid-19. Under the PM Cares for Children scheme, each child will receive Rs 4,000 to meet their daily needs.

He added that PM Cares will help these children with education loans for professional courses and higher education. Children aged 18-23 will receive a stipend.

The nation leader was speaking at the 8th-anniversary function of his government. A passbook of the PM Cares scheme, a health card under Ayushman Bharat, and scholarships were transferred to the students at the event. Minister of Women and Child Affairs Development, Smriti Irani, was also present at the event.

Speaking of how India dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister said the country did not become a problem but a solution-giver. "We sent medicines and vaccines to countries across the globe". He also noted that about 200 crore vaccine doses have been administered in India itself.

"Coming out of the negative impact of Covid, India has become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world," added the PM.

The PM on Saturday said he did not do anything that would shame Indians during his eight-year-long reign. He added that his government is trying to build the India Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel dreamt.

The Narendra Modi-led government returned for a second term in 2019 and checked several key boxes on its agenda. India has also been making alliances with the US, Japan, and Australia to strengthen its security status. The country has provided support and help to neighbouring island nation Sri Lanka in its worst economic crisis.

However, India has not been able to recover from the pandemic-induced slumber. A recent Moody's report said the Indian economy seems strong enough to maintain solid growth momentum — unless global crude oil and food prices rise further.
