New Delhi: A war of words is now raging between Prime Minister Modi and the Congress over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in London about democracy in India.

During a campaign trail in poll-bound Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Rahul Gandhi’s remarks of democracy under ‘brutal attack’ was an insult to India’s traditions.

Tearing into the congress, PM Modi termed Rahul Gandhi’s statements as an insult to 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara, the people of Karnataka, India's great traditions and its citizens.

"Statue of Lord Basaveshwara is in London, but it is unfortunate that in the same London questions were raised on India's democracy. The roots of India's democracy have been nurtured by centuries of our history. No power in this world can harm India's democratic traditions. Despite this some are constantly making it stand in the dock," PM Modi reportedly said.

The Congress leader Pawan Khera quickly reacted saying that PM Modi is neither God nor the country but he is the prime minister of the country, adding how criticizing the policies of Modi will become the criticism of the country.

Pawan Khera , who is the Congress media and publicity department head, said prime minster who attacks the democracy ‘ wasted’ nine years abusing the elders and ancestors of this country, according to India Today.

"Since when did the criticism of your policies become the criticism of the country? You are just a prime minister, you are neither the country, nor God nor the creator," Congress leader Pawan Khera reportedly said.

Pawan Khera also said that PM Modi insulted three generations with his remarks that nothing had happened in the last 70 years in India.

"When you show red eyes to the media in the country and raid foreign media, then you do not bother about the image of the country," Khera reportedly asked.
