Mangaluru: The murder of 45-year-old fancy shop owner, Jaleel, at Katipalla in Surathkal station limits in Mangaluru on the night of Saturday has prompted Karnataka police to impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Surathkal and adjoining areas.

After being stabbed allegedly by two persons when Jaleel was at his shop at around 8 pm on Saturday, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared to have succumbed to his injuries.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said a probe is on to find the motive behind the killing, besides imposing a restriction on the movement of five or more people in groups from 6 am on Sunday, December 25 to 6 am on December 27 in the jurisdiction of Surathkal, Panambur, Bajpe and Kavoor police stations.

However, Christmas celebrations, religious programmes and emergency services have been exempted from the prohibition.

Commercial and industrial establishments have also been asked to shut down by 6 pm on December 25 and 26. Police also warned against raising provocative slogans.
