New Delhi: On International Women's Day 2024, President Droupadi Murmu extended her wishes, underscoring the significance of providing equal opportunities for women and empowering them across various domains.

In her message, President Murmu acknowledged the existing challenges faced by women and emphasized the need to address them.

"It is also an important occasion to emphasise the need to provide equal opportunities for women and empower them in all spheres of life. Even today, women face several challenges which we need to address," President Murmu stated on the occasion of International Women's Day, observed annually on March 8.

Dedicated to acknowledging women's achievements and promoting gender equality, International Women's Day serves as a platform for raising awareness about women's rights. President Murmu commended women for setting new benchmarks in fields such as science, technology, medicine, space, armed forces, and sports. She highlighted the impressive display of women's power and leadership during the Republic Day Parade.

"I wish for the success of women’s day celebrations and extend my best wishes for the bright future of all women," Murmu added.

Prominent figures, including Ritu Karidhal, Mission Director for Chandrayaan 3, and Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), echoed sentiments of positive change. Karidhal noted the increasing contributions of women in complex missions, while Sharma highlighted the growth in opportunities for women across various sectors, including politics and science.

In a separate statement, President Murmu had earlier urged citizens to collaborate in removing hurdles and empowering young women, envisioning their role in shaping India's future. "Let us work together to remove the remaining hurdles from the path of young women, and give them wings, for they will shape tomorrow's India."

International Women's Day serves as a global celebration of gender equality and recognizes the achievements and contributions of women worldwide.
