New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud urged investigative agencies to focus on cases involving national security and crimes against the nation.

Justice Chandrachud was delivering the 20th DP Kohli Memorial Lecture on CBI Raising Day when he pointed out that the premier agencies are ‘ spread to too thin’, asking them to focus into diverse criminal cases beyond their role as anti-corruption agencies.

‘The CBI is being increasingly asked to delve into diverse array of criminal cases beyond its role as anti-corruption investigative agency. This places a huge responsibility on CBI to live upto its motto,’ Chief Justice Chandrachud was quoted as saying, adding,’I think we have spread out the premier investigative agencies too thin’.

Alongside suggesting the digitising investigation process beginning with filing FIR, he said that probe agencies ‘must only focus on those that concern national security and crimes of economic offences against the nation.’

In order to deal with the number of cases, he suggested leveraging on technology to cut down delays.

Justice Chandrachud also called for upgrading the probe agency through structural reforms along with harnessing the use of artificial Intelligence.
