New Delhi: The Bhagwant Mann administration in Punjab cancelled licenses of 813 guns cracking down on the smouldering gun culture of the state.

The Punjab government has cancelled more than 2,000 arms licences so far, according to NDTV.

Of the recent cancellations, 87 were from Ludhiana Rural; 48 from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar;10 from Gurdaspur, 84 from Faridkot; 199 from Pathankot, among others.

While 47 licences in Hoshiapur were revoked, 6 from Kapurthala and 235 from SAS Kasba, and 16 from Sangrur were among those cancelled.

In a wide sweep of crackdown on arms, the government cancelled Arms licences of 27 people of Amritsar Commissionerate, and 11 of Jalandhar Commissionerate alongside those in many other district have been cancelled. The government made following of rules mandatory for carrying guns.

The government banned both carrying and displaying weapons in public functions, religious places, marriage ceremonies and other events in Punjab.

Moreover, strict rules now bans glorification of violence and weapons alongside it will conduct random checking in several areas in coming days.

While the government claims to be ending ‘gun culture’, a total of 3,73,053 arms licences are reported in Punjab.

The popular artist, with a fan-following of 8.1 million on Instagram who poses with guns, was accused of promoting gun culture.

He is reportedly seen flaunting his weapons in videos and photographs.

As soon as the images emerged showing him firing a riffle a case was filed against him.
