Punjabi Singer/Politician Sidhu Moosewala shot dead

Chandigarh: Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala were shot dead by a group of assailants at his ancestral village in Punjab's Mansa. According to reports, more than 30 rounds were fired at the 27-year-old singer and IANS reports that the gruesome incident occurred within 24 hours after the government rolled back the security provided to him.

He was travelling with his friends while the assailants appeared and fired at him. Though he was taken to hospital, he was declared dead.

Moosewala, a globally renowned Punjabi rapper, had made his electoral debut as a Congress candidate in the recent Assembly polls in the state.

IANS reports that the singer was facing four criminal cases, including two pertaining to obscene scenes.

He was a familiar figure with controversies, and one among them was his using the name of 18th-century Sikh warrior Mai Bhago in his track 'Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi' for which panthic demanded his arrest, and he later apologized. He was also facing charges for promoting gun culture in his song "Sanju".

His hit tracks were 'Legend', 'Devil', 'Just listen', 'Jatt da Muqabala' and 'Hathyar' and others. Many of his songs featured on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 charts. He played the central character in the Punjabi film 'Moosa Jatt' and 'Yes I Am A Student' was another movie of inspiration.

Joining Congress in December 2021, he had said, "I am not entering politics for status or to earn praise. I want to become a part of the system to transform it. I am joining the Congress to raise the voice of the people. I am joining the Congress as the party has leaders who have come from common families,"
