New Delhi: The Russian-Ukraine war has prompted Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to tell Army commanders that India must be prepared to address any security challenges it may encounter in the future, including irregular and asymmetric warfare.

He also congratulated the Army for its operational readiness to deal with any possible unforeseen circumstances during Monday's biannual Army Commanders' Conference.

In addition to assessing possible geopolitical implications of the Russia Ukraine war for the region, the commanders analyzed India's national security challenges along its borders with China and Pakistan.

"Addressed the Army Commanders Conference today. Complimented the Indian Army for their operational preparedness and capabilities. Exhorted the Military leadership to prepare for every possible challenge in future, including the challenge of unconventional & asymmetric warfare," Mr Singh tweeted.

During the five-day conference, the defence minister expressed appreciation for the army's unflinching and selfless commitment to the nation and its relentless efforts towards modernisation through indigenisation. The conference ends on Friday.

Traditionally held in October and April every year, the Army Commanders Conference serves as a venue for in-depth discussions leading to important policy decisions for the Indian Army.

Conference officials said they discussed aspects of the war in Ukraine that may impact regional security as well as the conflict's military aspects.

According to officials, the conference also discussed extensively the anti-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the overall situation in the Union Territory.
