Bollywood's fantasy adventure film Brahmashtra Part One: Shiva is heading for a global theatrical release. Disney is behind this move as Fox Star Studios, the production house and distributor of the film is now owned by The Walt Disney Company India.

Disney acquired Fox in 2019.

Brahmastra has created quite a buzz after its trailer and first song 'Kesariya' was released. The leading characters are played by Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. After the recent wedding of the actors, fans are eager for the movie as rumours of them having fallen in love amid shooting Brahmastra have been circulating for years.

Directed and co-written by Ayan Mukerji, the film has been in the making for seven years. It is also the first in a trilogy and an introduction to a new cinematic universe called the Astraverse.

While Brahmastra is not the first movie to get overseas distribution, Disney's backing will garner the movie more attention than most Indian films. Disney has added Brahmastra to its domestic slate in North America along with movies like Thor: Love and Thunder.

The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Dimple Kapadia, and Nagarjuna Akkineni in major roles.

Produced by Fox Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus, and Starlight Pictures, the movie is set to hit theatres on September 9. It will be released in five Indian languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
