UP govt to consider naming roads and Aligarh airport after Kalyan Singh

Aligarh: As BJP leaders are demanding to name the new Aligarh airport after late former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya on Monday said that road to Ram Janmabhoomi will be named after Kalyan Singh.

"This would be a tribute to the contribution of the late leader in the Ayodhya movement and his commitment to the Ram temple", Maurya said

"One road in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr and Aligarh would also be named after Kalyan Singh, Maurya was quoted as saying in IANS report.

"The PWD department will soon complete the formalities in this regard," he added.

On Monday, when asked whether Aligarh airport will be named after Kalyan Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told reporters that the Cabinet would meet soon and the matter is set for discussion, reports NDTV. He was talking to the media after paying his final respects to former CM Kalyan Singh.

After the recent demise of Singh, BJP leaders are reportedly pushing for the christening of the newly constructed mini airport in Aligarh after him.

Adityanath lauded Kalyan Singh's work under his tenure and said that after his resignation in 1992, he stood for the poor and oppressed. Singh worked for the welfare of all people instead of a particular community, believed in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's teaching and a true RSS leader, Adityanath said.

The CM said that, unlike his opposition parties, Singh stood for Ram Mandir and was a leader of the masses. He said that Singh was associated with the common people of Aligarh for years. People were paying respects to him from the airport to the city. He prays to God Ram for strength to fulfil Singh's dreams, he added.

Kalyan Singh passed away on Saturday. His defining moment in his political career was when he was forced to resign in 1992, hours after Babri Masjid was pulled down.
