Lucknow: Senior Supreme Court advocate Zafaryab Jilani, who played a pivotal role as the lawyer representing the Muslim side in Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid dispute case, passed away in Lucknow at the age of 73.

Jilani had been battling ill health for some time and ultimately breathed his last at a hospital in Nishatganj.

Having served as the secretary of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Jilani's contributions extended beyond the courtroom. He held prominent positions, including Chairman of the Babri Masjid Action Committee and Additional Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh, earning him recognition as a leading figure in legal and religious circles.

Muslim clerics and scholars have expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of such a distinguished advocate. Jilani's tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to justice have left an indelible mark on the highly emotive Ayodhya dispute.
