"The Hon'ble Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has accepted my resignation," the former Union minister said in another tweet.

He further added that he was "honoured to represent the state of Maharashtra. I wish the people of Maharashtra the very best in the future, peace and prosperity."

Chidambaram was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2016 from Maharashtra. His term was going to end on July 4 this year.
