RTI activist Saket Gokhale on Thursday joined the Trinamool Congress in New Delhi. Senior leaders including Derek O'Brien, Yashwant Sinha and other TMC leaders were present at the event.

Explaining his decision to join the part, Gokhale said Mamata Banerjee's TMC takes an aggressive stand on issues. "The TMC is the second-largest opposition party in Parliament, and it has been my obvious choice. If you look at all the national parties, the TMC takes an aggressive stand. The way the chief minister of Bengal has been fighting on the front foot, that's what I'm looking for," Gokhale said.

Taking note of Gokhale's RTI activism and history, the TMC said in its statement, "Saket Gokhale is a renowned RTI activist and began his career as a journalist. He has filed RTIs on issues of national importance for several years. Most recently, he filed queries on bank loans and budgetary allocation for Pegasus."
