New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi urged the party leaders to stop making comments to media that could harm the grand old party.

Sonia Gandhi’s directions come as the Congress is getting ready to take on the BJP in the Lok Saha polls later this year.

The party national chief Mallikarjun Kharge told all leaders at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) taking place in Hyderabad to reach out to people.

Kharge asked leaders and workers to listen to the problems of the people.

‘This is not the time for us to rest. In the past 10 years under the BJP's rule, the challenges faced by ordinary people have multiplied. The Prime Minister refuses to address the concerns of the poor, farmers, labourers, women and youth; instead, he cannot look beyond himself,’ Kharge was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi asked congress leaders to be self-restraint in making comments.

Kharge told the party leaders to set aside personal interests and prioritise the success of the party, adding that only through discipline the party could defeat adversaries.

‘This was evident in Karnataka, where we remained united and fought with discipline to achieve success’ Kharge reportedly said.

The CWC, made up of 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees, has several new faces including Shashi Tharoor, Sachin Pilot and Gaurav Gogoi.
