Student gets beaten, forced to chant religious slogans in Hyderabadtext_fields
Hyderabad: A video has surfaced on social media and gone viral, featuring a group of students ragging a fellow student in a hostel room here. The incident reportedly happened at ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (IFHE), and the video shows a group attacking the victim, asking him to chant religious slogans such as "Jai Mata Di" and "Allahu Akbar", NDTV reported.
The victim has been identified as Himank Bansal, a third-year law student from the institution. He was slapped, kicked, and his hands twisted as well as beaten up.
The attackers were heard saying that they wanted to fix the victim's ideology. They said they would beat him to a coma, and he would remember a new world. They forced the victim's wallet from him, and one was heard saying that take all the money.
Police have charged 12 students with attempting to murder and taken five into custody. The remaining seven are absconding, while all of them were suspended.
The incident allegedly happened on November 1 after Himank made remarks against the Prophet on social media. He approached the police, filed a complaint, and they registered a case for assaulting him physically and sexually, NDTV reported.
Himank alleged in his complaint that the assaulters threatened to beat him up if he didn't take his trousers off. In addition to his complaint, Himank tweeted the incident and tagged Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao as well as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the business school where the incident happened issued a statement saying that it has no tolerance for such acts. A decision has been taken to suspend the 12 assaulters, it said.
While Telangana BJP slammed the KCR government for not taking immediate action, a YouTube channel came up with a video with having caption that the assaulters were Muslim students.
BJP said that it was not about religion, but pseudo-secularism and similar provocative incidents are going unnoticed.
