Stunt master Kanal Kannan detained for sharing controversial video of pastortext_fields
After sharing a controversial video on social media, renowned stuntman and actor Kanal Kannan was detained by Tamil Nadu's Nagercoil cybercrime police. A DMK leader's complaint that Mr Kannan had offended religious sensitivities led to his arrest.
In a tweet, a news agency confirmed the arrest and wrote, ''Kollywood stunt master and actor Kanal Kannan arrested by cyber crime police in Nagercoil for sharing a video of a pastor dancing with a woman, on social media: Tamil Nadu Police.''
Notably, the arrest happened after the actor shared a video of a preacher dancing with a young woman on Twitter, NDTV reported.
Mr Kannan posted the video on June 18 and wrote, "This is the true state of foreign religious culture???!!!! Think converted Hindus!!!! Repent!!!" The video went viral, attracting criticism from social media users.
Notably, the stunt coordinator has collaborated with a number of notable stars in the Tamil cinema industry, including Thalapathy Vijay and Superstar Rajinikanth.
He also serves as the state president and head of the organization's Art and Literature Wing, Hindu Munnani, a well-known Hindu group. Hindu Munnai expressed their discontent with the arrest in a tweet and announced that they would protest the state police's actions on July 11 at 4 PM.
According to a report, Mr Kannan was detained for his remarks against rationalist leader Periyar EV Ramasamy last year after receiving a complaint from a Dravidian organisation.
