New Delhi: In response to several instances of opposition party leaders facing probes by the ED and CBI, fourteen opposition parties have sought the intervention of the Supreme Court to address the arbitrary use of central agencies against their leaders.

Representing the 14 political parties, which make up 42% of the political spectrum, Senior Advocate A M Singhvi made a representation before Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, who has agreed to hear the case on April 5.

Singhvi informed the court that the opposition parties were concerned about the arbitrary use of central agencies against political opponents and felt that democracy was at risk.

He emphasized that they did not intend to interfere with ongoing investigations but rather wanted some pre- and post-arrest guidelines to be established.
