A group of 16 leaders from various parties in Tamil Nadu, including a former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP and 15 former MLAs, have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Among those who joined the BJP were former MLAs representing different political backgrounds, including the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), DMK, Congress, and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

The leaders made their formal entry into the BJP during a ceremony attended by Union ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar and L Murugan, as well as Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai.

Notable figures among the new BJP members include former AIADMK minister Gomathi Srinivasan and former DMK MP V Kulandaivelu. The former MLAs who switched allegiance to the BJP include individuals with decades of experience in Tamil Nadu politics.

During the event, the leaders expressed their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi by raising slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Modiji Zindabad." Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai described the occasion as historic for the party in the state, emphasizing the leaders' decision to strengthen PM Modi's leadership.

Regarding the possibility of alliances, Annamalai stated that while Union Home Minister Amit Shah had indicated that all options were open, the shape and form of any alliance would be announced in the coming days. He reiterated that the BJP's doors were open to parties willing to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under PM Modi's leadership.
