Tamil Nadu Govt denies forced conversion charges against Christian school

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu minority welfare commission that visited a Chennai school, which was alleged to have been forcing students to religious conversion, said the allegations have no proof and were made to create hate among people.
S Peter Alphonse, Chairman of the State Minorities Commission with commission members, visited the Monahan Girls Higher Secondary School in Royapettah after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) alleged that the school is found to have been involved in the forced conversion of students from weaker section of society.
On September 6, the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR) team, headed by Saraswathy Rangasamy inspected the school, which is run by Christian management.
Rangasamy, in her report sent to the NCPCR, alleged that the students in the school were forced to religious conversion and directed the Child Welfare Department (CWC) to evacuate the students from the hostel.
When the Child Welfare Department (CWC) that has been directed to take action against the school, and was seen as hesitant to move on the TNCPCR's order, NCPCR directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit a report after a probe into the allegation and action taken against the school along with an FIR.
A probe panel constituted by the state government inspected the school and fouProtectionnd that all the students, who were in the hostel at the time of inspection were from the Christian community and denied the allegation of forced conversion.
After the discussions, Alphonse conducted a press meet where he said that the allegations against the school were made just to create hate among the people and bring a bad name to the government. He alleged that the parents said that their daughters are feeling much safer in the hostel than in their own parental houses.
