Desecration of Periyar statue : TN police arrest two Hindu Munnani activist

The Podanur police arrested two activists from the Hindu Munnani for defacing the statue of Periyar or E.V. Ramasamy Periyar in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

On Sunday morning, saffron powder and slippers were found smeared on the statue in front of the Thanthai Periyar Study Centre.

Two functionaries of Hindu Munnani from Podanur were arrested after the police studied the CCTV images taken from the nearby shop. They were identified as Arun Karthik and Mohan Raj.

According to the police, the two offenders were brought before the Judicial magistrate court and were remanded in custody for 15 days.
