New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor, who is at the forefront of the group in the Congress that seeks organisational reforms, met with Sonia Gandhi and the details of talks between them are not known.

Alongside meeting the Congress chief, Tharoor endorsed on Twitter a petition put forward by a group of young party members urging the party leaders to implement the Udaipur Declaration.

The petition by the young party members appears to be referring to the 'Udaipur declaration' as a solution to the party's organisational flaws.

The chintan shivir held in Udaipur in May adopted the declaration that sought to invigorate the party across the nation.

Now that an organizational poll is likely, young members of the party seek the party's commitment to fair internal elections.

The petition that Tharoor shared on Twitter asks the party leadership to follow the rules including one candidate for a family, one person per one post and a five cap on positions.

Tharoor welcomed the petition on Twitter saying that over 650 people have signed it and said he was happy to endorse it himself.

Sharing of the petition bespeaks of his decision to go ahead participating in the organizational poll in October.

Many in the party still urge Rahul Gandhi to reconsider eschewing himself from leading the party.

That said, three state Congress units openly endorsed it, making it clear that the leadership would rather have consensus president than an elected one.

Tharoor, who is a member of the "G-23", has not denied contesting the Congress president polls.
